The economic pundits are predicting that the crisis of the past couple years has changed consumers and corporations permanently. As consumers we will continue to curtail spending and as corporations we have learned to function very lean to keep costs down. The problem from a corporate perspective seems to be – we may be functioning too lean. It is a rare employee you speak to who is not working harder and longer for less.

For my own businesses, I have focused more on flexible staffing. We have been utilizing temps to fill in as our workload has increased. These professionals have filled much needed functions and in some cases we have already been able to hire them on full –time. I know as a staffing specialist this should have been a no-brainer but I have been just as nervous as all my cohorts. Now to start spending again….
